Wow this show keeps growing and growing and grrrrrrowing...about 4 weeks to go and I am about halfway there....hmmmm...anyway here are a few pics of Fannie's costumes. The light blue is a cocoon coat in silk velvet for the dinner scene and the second is her dress for the train scene when she sings "Don't Rain on My Parade". Back to work. Busy Busy Busy : )

I was hunting through a local thrift store and found this awesome brown striped, ruffled front shirt and couldn't resist bringing it home. I constructed a brown skirt to match and added the trim to bring the look together. I need to add the hat, tie and belt and it's complete. Not bad for a few dollars : )

Okay my first challenge...turning this ugly lemon yellow Victorian style bridal gown into a beautiful Ziegfeld Follies bridal gown. Hmmm, this will be tricky. I picked this up on eBay for only a few bucks so I thought it would be worth a try. The seller stated it was pastel yellow and cream....it arrived lemon yellow and yellow...ucky! I think I heard the gown sobbing.
I'll stare at it for a few days til I go blind then stick it in bleach and see what happens : )

I'm in my final year of grad school and the semester has begun at a hectic pace. I costume design Wonder of the World which opens October 5. My next project is constructing puppets for our theatre's production of Alice in Wonderland. I'm excited about the project...should be a lot of fun.

I finished my mockup of Adama's Battlestar Galactica uniform. I only attached one sleeve (they're both alike) so I'll be able to quickly desconstruct the mockup and make a pattern.

I haven't posted much lately...I've been busy working on my Master's Degree in Costume Design. It's been a few years since I've been a college student so it's taken a little bit of adjustment to get back in to the swing of things : ) But, I'm enjoying every moment of it!

Chase dress revisited...I had a special request to construct the dress out of ultra suede. I love how it turned out and the fabric was wonderful to work with!

I've been drafting a reversible skirt for my Woman's Garb catalog. I love how it turned out! The skirts come in 2 color choices and are gathered on a very sturdy waistband that laces in the back. I also added a privacy panel/placket under the back opening. Each skirt front has a side split and a hook attached to the bottom. The bottom of the skirt can be lifted and hooked to the waistband to show off the coordinating underskirt. All seams are enclosed with no visible raw edges : ) 2 skirts in 1.

I'm also adding leaf necklaces. This one has ivory leaves with amethyst swarovski crystals, silver beads and silver clasp with lavendar swarovski crystals. It is beautiful!

I love the feel and smell of this new leather suede jerkin! I used heavy 4.5 oz leather suede to construct the jerkin and brass grommets with leather ties to close the front. I'll be adding this style to my store soon!

I've been drafting some wench garb! I'll be adding reversible bodice and reversible skirt sets and suede doublets/jerkins. I also have some bridal jewelry to add to my store : ) It's been a very productive season!

Here's the new style Harry Potter Robe like the one from the latest movies. I drafted out the hood/shoulder seams and lengthened the hood. Oh, and I added a wand pocket : )

I've been very busy this Halloween season : ) The firefly Zoe vest has been very popular! I'm still waiting for the ultra suede/leather swatches but I do have access to real leather suede for Mal's browncoat.

For the browncoat, I've ordered swatches of ultra suede and should get those next week. Ultra suede looks and feels just like real suede but it's machine washable. It'll be perfect for the browncoat. I'm thinking about offering the strider jerkin in ultra suede also (price is about $150.00). I've also priced real leather suede just in case anyone is interested. Leather suede is gorgeous but it's twice the price. I can make the ultra suede browncoat for about $300.00 (depending on the width of the fabric)or leather suede for $600.00 plus shipping. I think I'll make one for myself : )

I've been working on my browncoat (bdc...big damn coat!). I've finished the first mockup and now I'll work on revisions. I think I need to add a few inches to the length and make the arms a litttle wider. I also need to find a better picture of the back of the browncoat. I guess I'll need to pop in the Firefly DVD again :) I haven't even started looking for the front closures/fasteners. Any ideas where to find them???

My Serenity / Firefly vest is finished! Yay! I still need to purchase a wider belt and buckle, though. I had so much fun recreating this costume piece and I'm thrilled with the final results.

I'm working on my final version of Zoe's Serenity Vest. I'm waiting on the buckles and then I can add the side straps. I also need to order a military buckle and get a wider belt. It fits like a glove and I love the material : ) This was a lot of fun to recreate!

I made my second mock up of Zoe's vest from Serenity / Firefly. I changed the front seams and added a couple of inches to the length. I love how it turned out. I've ordered the fabric and I'll shop for buckles this week. I can't wait to finish this one ; ) I'm having a few problems uploading the new pictures so I'll post them asap!

Here's the first draft of Zoe's vest. I need to enlarge the armholes a little and add about 2 inches to the length. I'll be able to add another side strap when I lengthen the vest. This has been fun to work on : )

Well, I decided to scrap the whole idea of making pirate pants. I did a little more research and found that there are basically two types of pirate pants that you frequently see at Ren faires, fitted jean style and baggie drawstring style. I was working on a "period correct" pattern and realized that they would be incredibly hard to fit without doing custom fittings (and custom fittings ain't gonna happen : ) ) So, I've sketched another style of "ranger" jerkin that I'll start drafting this week. The style reminds me of Faramir from LOTR. I'll upload a sketch as soon as it's ready!

I have been having so much fun lately : ) I finally got the Harry Potter pattern finished and I'll post pictures as soon as it stops raining outside. I haven't made the mock up yet, though. I also drafted a youth size Jedi robe pattern. I finished the Jedi robe and I'll work on the tunics later this week! I played with my Frodo coat also. I need to attach the sleeves and the lining and I hope to post pictures soon!

Woohoo! I absolutely love the miniature Jack Sparrow Costume! I made this in a child size 6-8. It is so cute with the weskit, shirt, sash and bandana with beads : ) That was too much fun to make.

Well, to be completely honest, I didn't even touch the Frodo coat this week. I've gotten many requests for child size costumes. So, I spent a few days drafting the Strider jerkin + red shirt and Jack Sparrow weskit + shirt in children's sizes. It was so much fun and the outfits are adorable. I'll post pictures tomorrow : 0 )

I had a wonderful time today constructing my pirate head scarf. I really like the look of Jack Sparrow's head scarf in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean so I used it as my inspiration. I made the beads detachable so that the scarf can be laundered : )

I've made wonderful progress on my Eowyn Shield Vest. I still need to add the bodice trim and add the grommets and lace to the back. I think I'm going to have to add a little boning to the back at the grommets for stability.

I've been working on Eowyn's Shield Maiden Dress / Corset. I've decided to draft out the gathers in the front at the bustline. I also added 2 inches to the length and altered the curve at the bottom. I need to decide on trim.I will post pictures later today.

Well, I started on my mockup of Eowyn's corset. I'm going to have it lace completely up the back and add a modesty panel. I need to add the wings or caps to the shoulders. I'm also going to add an inch to the shoulder seam to drop the bust line and add an inch to the length. The waist was a perfect fit. Here it is so far...

Yay! I finished my Jack Sparrow vest / weskit! I'm thrilled with how it turned out!! I had to alter the mockup a little...I cut the vest smaller and added the back laced pieces for a better fit.

Now that it's finished, I think I'll list it on ebay : )
